About the role
As an Essential Skills Tutor (Literacy), you will deliver accredited literacy programmes that help learners build confidence, achieve qualifications and develop the communication skills needed for employment, further learning and everyday life.
You will work with learners from a range of backgrounds to improve literacy skills, prepare for assessment and support positive progression outcomes.
This role would suit someone who enjoys helping others succeed, can maintain high standards and is confident delivering engaging learning in a structured and supportive environment.
What you will do
Deliver Essential Skills Literacy / Communication qualifications in line with awarding body requirements and curriculum standards
Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of learners with different starting points, abilities and support requirements
Prepare learners for assessment and support them to achieve accredited outcomes
Monitor learner progress, attendance and engagement, taking appropriate action where required
Keep accurate records and follow required processes
Communicate clearly with participants, colleagues and external partners

Minimum essential criteria
To be considered for this role, you will need to evidence in your CV that you meet the minimum essential criteria below:
A recognised teaching qualification in line with ES Circular 01/12
Experience delivering Essential Skills Literacy / Communication or similar accredited qualifications
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
Good organisation, attention to detail and ability to follow agreed processes
Evidence of commitment and follow-through in previous roles, education, volunteering or other responsibilities
Evidence of delivering outcomes, targets, learner achievement or agreed objectives
Reliability, punctuality and a professional approach to work
Ability to explain your employment history clearly, including any gaps or short-term roles
Confidence using digital systems, email and Microsoft Office
Ability to work in a structured environment where quality, compliance and outcomes are monitored
Commitment to Get Set UK's values and to supporting people who may face barriers to work, learning or progression
Willingness to complete all required recruitment checks, including right to work, references and AccessNI checks where required
GCSE English Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) or Level 2 Essential Skills Communication

Desirable criteria
It would be helpful if you have:
Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs or barriers to progression
Experience working within employability, skills, community learning or adult education programmes
Experience using learner management systems and maintaining funding or compliance documentation
