Employment Advisor - Youth Mentor Programme

Banbury, OX16 5AB
Contract Type: Full Time
Salary: £27000 - £29000
Working Hours: 35
Job Category: Education/Training/Instruction
01/11/2026 - Expires Tomorrow

Job Introduction

Be the reason a young person turns up on day one. Then the reason they stay.

Picture a young person with plenty to offer and little confidence that an employer will see it. You have a short window to change that. You find out what they are good at, clear what is in the way, and put them in front of an employer who will see it too. Then you stay with them, and act fast if the job wobbles.

If you have worked to targets in recruitment, HR, sales, retail or hospitality supervision, you know the feeling of a number moving the right way. Here, the number is a young person starting work and staying in it. You are not selling a product. You are helping someone, and the employer who hires them.

The opportunity

You will support young people aged 18 to 24 and own the whole journey on your own caseload: first conversation, plan, preparation, the right vacancy, the start date and the support after it. You will work closely with our Employer Partnerships colleagues, so the vacancies you put people forward for suit them.

This is a performance-led role with clear targets that do not change. Not every young person will be receptive. Wanting to help people is a great start, but you also need to want to understand the commercials: what the contract says and why we need the outputs. The work is delivered in the community across a large area including rural areas, so you will be out meeting people, and you must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle. If you would rather support people without targets or travelling, this may not be the role for you.

What you'll be doing

  • Building a vocational profile with each young person and turning it into a plan in which every action leads to a job.
  • Clearing practical barriers such as travel or digital access.
  • Matching people to suitable vacancies and preparing them for employer introductions.
  • Coaching people through the first weeks of work.
  • Keeping records accurate, timely and audit ready.

What you'll need

Essential (you need all of these):

  • Experience of working towards measurable targets and deadlines.
  • Experience of supporting, coaching or advising people towards a defined outcome, including building engagement quickly with people who may have limited confidence or experience of employment.
  • Experience of helping people overcome practical barriers and move towards employment, education or another positive outcome.
  • The ability to build trust, set clear expectations and challenge constructively where this helps someone make progress.
  • Clear communication with young people, employers and partners, and managing people at different stages at once.
  • Confident use of case-management or CRM systems and Microsoft 365, with accurate record keeping and an understanding of safeguarding and data security responsibilities.
  • Being able to drive and have access to a vehicle, as the work is delivered across a large area including rural areas.
  • No specific qualifications are required.

Desirable (welcome, not required): experience in employability, youth provision, education, careers or customer service, or a relevant guidance, coaching or youth work qualification.

What good looks like in this role

These describe how we work. They are not extra requirements.

  • People and Communication: You coach each young person in the way that suits them, so they build confidence and handle work situations independently.
  • Deliver results: You review your caseload and numbers, own your outcomes and put things right when something slips.
  • Get it right: You follow safeguarding and data protection requirements, keep records accurate and do what you said you would do.
  • Business acumen: You understand what the contract asks for and how each job start supports the wider business.
