We’re now looking for a Youth Personal Advisor to join our Essex Work Ready service – a compassionate, motivated professional who is passionate about supporting young adults with mental health needs to re-engage with learning, employment and the wider community.

This is a frontline, people-focused role where your work will have real, visible impact on young lives across Essex.

Your Impact

As a Youth Personal Advisor, you will support young adults aged 16–26 with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), or who are at risk of disengagement.

Through personalised, recovery-focused and trauma-informed support, you will help young people rebuild confidence, develop aspirations and progress towards meaningful education, employment or training outcomes.

Working closely with mental health services, youth partners and community organisations, your role will directly contribute to improved wellbeing, independence and long-term life chances for young people across Pan-Essex, including Southend and Thurrock.

  • Work closely with CAMHS, Secondary Mental Health Teams, Early Intervention Psychosis services, ARMS and youth organisations

  • Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to coordinated support planning

  • Promote the Essex Work Ready service within local referral networks

  • Maintain professional information-sharing and partnership standards

Outreach Delivery Across Essex

  • Deliver support flexibly across Greater Essex, including Southend and Thurrock

  • Meet young people in safe, accessible community settings, youth venues and partner locations

  • Adapt your approach to suit different engagement needs and environments

  • Work independently and collaboratively while following lone-working procedures

Performance & Outcomes

  • Work to engagement, progression and outcome targets

  • Support the achievement of education, employment and training outcomes

  • Contribute to employment engagement and opportunity development

  • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant case notes and reporting

  • Support delivery of contractual KPIs

  • Identify, manage and escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately

  • Work within risk-management and lone-working procedures

  • Promote wellbeing-first and psychologically informed practice

Co-Production & Youth Voice

  • Encourage young people to shape their support and goals

  • Gather feedback to inform service improvement and learning

Who we seek

  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable groups

  • Ability to build trust, rapport and positive relationships

  • Experience in employability, youth work, mentoring, education or mental health support
